Viet Shack Restaurant

Came here for dinner (mid day meal). Great dinner specials menu. I had the Veganese burger with chips. It was delicious. Served with a pot of delicious Thai Nguyen tea. Only £11.

Arrived around 5:50 pm on a Saturday evening — busy enough with most tables filled, but still comfortable. We sat down and ordered a Pho and Summer Rolls. Barely five minutes later, our food was on the table.

Having tried a lot of decent Vietnamese spots around Manchester since Viet Shack moved from the Arndale, I hadn’t visited this location until now. I have to say, it’s very impressive — the Pho was full of rich, aromatic flavours, and the Summer Rolls were fresh and beautifully presented.

Service was friendly and efficient despite the busy atmosphere, making the whole experience even better. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Ancoats and craving authentic Vietnamese food.

Viet Shack in Ancoats is a decent spot for Vietnamese food. The atmosphere is casual, and the menu offers a good variety of dishes. The summer rolls, which were great, and they do have a good selection of vegetarian options.
It's worth noting that they don't take reservations, so there can be a wait, and the space is somewhat limited. If you're looking for a low-key meal and don't mind a potential wait, it's a great option.

Visited for the first time after hearing great things and had high hopes. The dumplings were tasty, but unfortunately both the summer rolls and beef bún were really bland.

The noodles were completely plain, served with just beef (which was okay) and salad. They gave us a bottle of chilli and lime dressing with the mains, but no matter how much we added, it just didn’t seem to bring any real flavour. What’s disappointing is that I’ve since seen reviews from a year ago saying the same thing — so it doesn’t seem like feedback is being taken on board (in hindsight, we should’ve checked that before going!)

We were tempted by the shack fries but didn’t want to order an extra main on top of those we’d already ordered, so we asked if we could order the mini shack fries from the kids menu to have as a side just so we could try them. We’d already ordered a starter and a main each, so it seemed a bit silly to be told no because apparently they’re strict that only under-11s can order from the kids menu. While I get the rule if adults are trying to order kids meals instead of an adults main, in this context it didn’t really make sense as we’d already ordered a main each.

The waitress was lovely and polite, and I get that it’s a small venue with quick turnaround, but putting the bill down before we asked for it (with a “no rush”) and then coming over with the card machine a few minutes later, unprompted, while we were still mid-drink made us feel rushed.

Based on this experience, unfortunately, I wouldn’t return or recommend.

Very busy, but for a good reason, great food, with lots of options to cover every taste,  the staff are friendly and attentive, and the prices are very reasonable.
I chose the crispy duck com as my main, after being advised by a member of staff that it was her favourite dish, I wasn’t disappointed, excellent taste, nice crispy finish to the duck, and way more than I could manage to finish.
Well worth a visit, certainly glad I did !

Pho Cue

Pho Cue’s food is super heart warming and tasty. Their garlic butter chicken is a must try, seasoning is just right! The Vietnamese coffee is superb. Summer rolls with avocado and tofu is quite a healthy bite with a yummy dip sauce. Special Pho is light for the tummy and flavourful. We will visit again next time to try other foods in the menu.

The food was delicious. Portions were huge. We ordered a starter and a main each and struggled to finish it all. We had ice tea's, and they were the best I've had, ever, without even exaggerating. For what you get, it is very well priced. Will definitely be returning again.

Absolutely incredible Pho! Best I've ever had. Service was spot on, very friendly waiters and food came quickly. Did have a 15 minute wait when we first arrived just to get a table, but that just speaks to the quality of the food. Will definitely be coming back on my next trip to Manchester. The restaurant had a specials board with some great sounding food on, but I went for the seafood pho and some tofu and avocado summer rolls. Really really good. 10/10. Must visit! Prices are very reasonable too!

A very nice Vietnamese restaurant in the center of Manchester (China Town area). We didn't make a reservation, so we had to wait for around 15 minutes, but it was worth it. The food was very good, the service was nice and friendly, and the price was fair and reasonable. Strongly recommended.
PS - Read the restaurant's name loud and clear. It's hilarious 😂

Nice atmosphere, really good food love the Pho noodle soup! The rice curry boxes are also really good and all the sides we tried (vegetable dumplings, loaded taters, chicken tenders) were all yum. Everything I got was delicious. Atmosphere is really nice, they have extra seating downstairs and even a jukebox to request songs on! Would recommend

Couldn't have had a better experience. The food was incredible, it was easy to order on the machines (and they listed the full macros and nutritional information!!), the meal deal was reasonably priced, you can even get desserts and bubble tea, the staff were so kind and considerate, it's wheelchair-accessible and dog-friendly. Will definitely go again!

Really handy place to grab something quick and tasty.

Had our food within minutes and I was expecting it to be leaning more towards fast food, however the rice box was lovely, really fresh slaw, well cooked rice and the pork was really tasty. Tots and dumpling worked well as sides and the bread in the baguette was really tasty.

This was my first visit and was not my first choice, but it will be in future. Very handy for dining before a gig or function in the city.

Super great place, my friends and i were super hang over and we were looking for a nice hot soup to cure us. 😅😓 the place is super cool and the packaging is very nice. Staff gave us extra limes 🍋‍🟩. Yes we are Mexicans

Not bad at all! Judging as a fast food joint, the food was excellent, the pulled mushroom noodle salad and veggie dumplings especially. Really liked the branding and user experience, food was served in a basket and all neatly packaged. We went for the full on meal deal which was good value - main, side and a drink. Food was hot, fresh and basking with flavour, even if it was additive-centric. Liked the free digital jukebox, nice touch though seemed too many Swifties ate there. In all, thought it was great and will be back. Definitely give it a go!
