I tried the three-course meat menu and overall it was okay. The butter chicken curry was the highlight, with a velvety texture and perfectly grilled pieces of chicken. The naan was soft, fresh, and a great companion to the curry. The starter lamb kebabs weren’t for me. They were too dry, which took away from the experience. The dessert, however, brought things back up. The warm gulab jamun with ice cream was a comforting and satisfying finish. The setting was lovely, the service was good, and the portion sizes were decent. We would come again.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at 1947, an Indian restaurant that truly elevates the dining experience compared to traditional local establishments. The ambiance exudes sophistication, making it an ideal spot for a fine dining experience. The restaurant offers both an à la carte menu and a set menu at a reasonable price, giving diners the flexibility to choose based on their preferences. I opted for the à la carte menu and was eager to see what the chef had to offer. For starters, I ordered the prawns and calamari, both of which were a delightful beginning to the meal. They were perfectly cooked, crispy, and packed with flavor that really set the tone for the evening. However, the main course was a mixed experience. The fish was overly salty for my taste, which diminished the overall enjoyment. The chicken was decent but could have benefited from being a bit more tender. Despite these minor drawbacks, the meal as a whole was satisfactory. Overall, my experience at 1947 was enjoyable, marked by excellent starters and a commendable atmosphere. With a few adjustments to the main dishes, it has the potential to be outstanding. I look forward to returning and exploring more of the menu.

We had a lovely time at your restaurant overall, the ambiance and decor are beautiful, and the starters were absolutely excellent. However, there are a few areas where we felt there could be some improvement. Firstly, the main door is quite heavy, which can make it difficult for some guests to enter easily. It would be great to have either a doorman or some kind of assistance to make the space more inclusive and welcoming. The mocktails were just okay, after a few sips, they seemed to lose their flavor and were mostly ice and water. The desserts were also a bit disappointing, especially the gulab jamun, which seemed to have lost its taste. Additionally, for a high-end restaurant, the toilets were quite average and could use some upgrades to better reflect the overall standard of the place. That said, we truly enjoyed the starters and the warm, elegant environment. With a few improvements, this could easily become an outstanding dining experience. Thank you for having us!

⭐⭐⭐☆☆ We visited 1947 yesterday for my birthday and went for the £50 per head sharing menu. The starters (samosa chaat, lamb seekh, chilli paneer, and chicken tikka) were absolutely fantastic — 10/10. Well seasoned, authentic Punjabi flavours that we all loved. The mains (butter chicken, lamb curry, palak paneer, and daal makhani) were less authentic in taste but still enjoyable, with the daal being a particular favourite at our table. Service was mixed. The main waitress looking after us was brilliant — kind, attentive, and especially thoughtful in making sure my mum had gluten-free options throughout the meal. Unfortunately, a male staff member serving the dinner courses left a poor impression when he kicked my handbag and birthday gift out of the way on the floor rather than politely asking us to move them. The biggest disappointment, however, was being told we could not take our leftovers home. With a £400 bill for a set menu that automatically refills mains, we didn’t even finish our first servings because the starters were so filling. It felt very wasteful, and although I raised this with staff, management still wouldn’t allow it. I’d completely understand if it was a second serving or refill, but not being able to take away the food we’d already paid for was very frustrating. Overall, the food quality (especially the starters) and most of the service were excellent, but the policy on leftovers and the one poor interaction soured the experience. I’d recommend trying 1947 à la carte, but would advise against the set menu.

Lovely food, nice place. Staff are helpful. We chose from the a la carte menu, portion size was average. Not the cheapest place but nice food, similar to many places in London maybe overpriced for what you get. On the flip side they offered a set menu which looked very good value for money. We were asked if we wanted poppadoms whilst the food was been made, menu was taken so didn't know the price. Charged £8/£9 for mini poppadoms with chutney which seemed a little steep in my opinion. Not sure if this is a sales tactic. We ordered pilau rice and instead got boiled rice but rectified the mistake and bought the correct one within a few minutes. Recommend the Stuffed Paneer, and also the Spinach. Definitely will go back again and recommend to try it.
