Old Chang Kee Covent Garden

Had the Signature Singapore chicken curry and Dry Chicken curry, they were both amazing! And rice cooked very well. Will definitely come back.

There was a poster on the inside which posed the question: "Is our food spicy?" It went on to say that despite Singapore once being the centre of the spice trade, Old Chang Kee's "food isn't intimidatingly hot". Instead, it clarifies: "We use Southeast Asian spices like turmeric, blue ginger, candlenut - and of course chillies - to strike the perfect balance of heat, flavour, and fragrance. As Singaporeans say... Shiok! (Singlish for ridiculously delicious)."

So, was Old Chang Kee "shiok" or not? Well, when it comes to the curry puffs, then there's no denying the quality of the pastry - undeniably good, with an assortment of fillings, the best of which for us is the Curry Chicken and Curry Potato. As for their mains, then these ranged from the good to the decent, with a couple splitting the crowd. Nevertheless, we might have enjoyed these more had the spices been more robust.

All in all, this new Singaporean eatery is certainly a welcome change to the obvious choices in the area, especially for those looking for a hearty, flavourful meal-on-the-go.

This place is nice for getting Singaporean food for takeaways but probably not for eat in. 

The curry puffs taste delicious. The other food were okay - not the best that you could find in the area. 

Staff are friendly.

I come from Singapore and would therefore, appreciate what is best in Singapore Food. This is definitely place to come. I had the Singapore curry – very good, just like in Singapore. Then the highlight was the curry puff. Best ever (in London). This is seriously good – Shiok. The ambience was typical Singaporean and staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. Well done – Old Chang Kee.
