Lovely small restaurant close to/in student quarter in Liverpool. Reasonably priced food. We had the wings which were really good, I had a burger which was cooked the way I like and my daughter had the Macaroni and cheese which she loved. We ended with homemade cheesecake and ice cream. The staff were very friendly and efficient, making for an enjoyable visit. It was our 1st time there and if ever in the area again we will be popping in. Even though we arrived around 5.30pm the restaurant was very quiet but by 6pm it was very busy, but everyone was getting the same quality of food and excellent service.

We had a wonderful meal at Free State Kitchen with family, sharing several dishes to try a bit of everything—and it did not disappoint! The chicken wings were a definite favorite, packed with flavor. We also really enjoyed the hearty vegetable chowder, chili fries, nachos, and Caesar salad—everything was fresh, tasty, and perfect for sharing. The atmosphere inside was warm and welcoming, but the real highlight was the beautiful garden—such a lovely spot to relax and enjoy good food with loved ones. Friendly service and a laid-back vibe made the experience even better. Definitely a great place for a casual meal with quality dishes and a cozy setting

Must stop for those visiting Liverpool! 5 stars for service, atmosphere and food. Everything we had was wonderful. As Texans we have a far share of wings. Free state kitchens wings have joined our top three wings ever. Highly recommend getting them. I wish I stopped here last time I was in Liverpool as this is a great match day meal.

When did it become the norm to pay £45 for 2 burgers, chips and coke? I wouldn't have minded if the meal was half decent but it wasn't. The burger had absolutely no flavour, fell apart and was completely sodden and greasy. No caramelised meat, no seasoning, nothing. The rosemary and salted chips were nowhere to be seen because there was no rosemary or salt and they were also undercooked. Decided to dine here before a show and it was a complete let down because I'd heard good things. We didn't have the time or energy to say how bad it was. Also went to the toilet and it was covered in excrement and being used as a storage space. Would definitely not return. Wouldn't have left a review if I didn't feel so robbed. Edit in response to owner: I really do appreciate your reply and it's clear you care which is nice to see and hear. You're right, I could have mentioned it but I don't really see it as my job to tell you that your bathroom is dirty or your food is lacking, it's just what we were met with on the evening unfortunately. I appreciate you would have liked the opportunity to know in person - it wasn't personal, we were just in a rush. With regards to being family run that's fine but I don't think it has any bearing on operating at a good standard, let's be honest here, it's not rocket science to cook a burger and some chips or have a clean toilet, it's the basic expectations really. I am sorry my review has upset you, that wasn't my intention. It was simply to share our experience as subpar. I don't agree with forking out that price for what we received but I did give service and atmosphere the score it was due. Hopefully my comments will be taken onboard and quality control looked at in the kitchen maybe. As customers the cost of dining out has become sky high and I appreciate it's similar for owners & the general running of a restaurant. I just don't think it's on me to accept such bad food at such a high price. Customers will just go elsewhere or stop eating out. I really do hope you can see there's no malice here, it was genuine review for other customers / feedback for the kitchen. Thanks.
