Food - the food used to be brilliant! However as times gone by the quality has dropped immensely. Before there were many condiments and garnishes on offer but not anymore. Also the quantity of sauce offered with the food has reduced. Service - there isn’t much service and the staff are usually behind the counter. Atmosphere - the restaurant is not busy anymore but it’s usually clean and tidy. I won’t be coming back. There’s photos here from a number of visits.

The second time I ate at this chain. It's good to have cheaper options if you are on a budget or just need a quick bite. I like the atmosphere and aura of like being in Japan... even the toilet was clean and the seat was nice and warm. Lovely to eat here and warm up with soup etc specially when it's wet and cold outside. The guy cleaning was so friendly and helpful. I appreciate his warm welcome even the guys by the door showing me where to order.

Located in a peaceful corner of St. Nicholas Place, Marugame Udon provides a welcome escape from the busy shopping streets nextdoor. On a quiet Sunday afternoon, my companion and I decided to try one of their "self-serve" bowls. The ordering process was efficient, with food collected in individual sections to keep things moving. We opted for creamy chicken paitan and Chicken Teriyaki flavors. While the chicken could have used brighter seasoning, the paitan broth was hearty and comforting. At £30 for 2 regular dishes + drinks + 1 pumping in Tempura Prices were OK (Probably better value trying to sharing one large dish). Facilities were in need of freshening by afternoon's end. But the calm atmosphere and warm wooden decor offered is really nice. Overall, Marugame satisfies cravings for wholesome Japanese noodles. With some attention to details, this casual spot could thrive for years to come.

Marugame has topped up the game of udom noodles with their array of wonderfully and tastefully prepared meals. I bet you that you have not tasted anything like this before, so delicious and amazingly the service was quick and excellent. The ambience is cool and welcoming, and the staff is very courteous

I was really impressed by the fast service and the pleasant sitting area. The self service condiment area was well stocked with Japanese mayo, spring onions, curry powder, chillies, and soya sauce. The curry udon had a fresh flavour as did the pumpkin katsu which was even better when dipped in the sticky brown sauce.
