El Jefes is an absolute gem inside Mala on Dame Street. If you’re craving some Mexican comfort food, this is the spot. The birria tacos are the star of the show - cheesy, flavour-packed and served with a rich consommé that takes them to the next level. The burritos are stuffed with Mexican rice, creamy guac, pico de gallo and gooey melted cheese, and the rice bowls are a brilliant option if you’re skipping the tortilla - loaded with tender meat, rice and a smoky chipotle kick. Every dish I tried was fresh, delicious and made with care. The team here really know what they’re doing. Highly recommend checking them out if you’re in Manchester, you won’t be disappointed!

Food was unbelievable, so tasty and flavourful. The service was a bit slow but having said that it was a Saturday evening about 8pm and it was absolutely packed. The atmosphere is amazing, buzzy, great DJ and music, really ambient- good for date nights, meet ups with friends, family get-togethers, you name it. Mala has so many restaurants under one roof there's something for everyone. I'm definitely coming back to El Jefe Birria to try the rest of the menu!

We ordered 2 beef birria tacos and a chicken birria enchilada. They tasted ok but not birria. Had more of an Italian / bolognese taste than it did Mexican. Birria dip was more of an oily watery gravy rather than a thick, meaty sauce. Salsa was nice. Also, enchiladas had way too many onions which were rather unnecessary. Always worth a try but Quite disappointing really.

I came here with some friends and both the beef and chicken fajita tacos were amazing! The meat was super tender and the other fillings were paired very well! The sauce was packed with flavour! Will definitely be coming back here x

I had to wait a long time for my food about 20 minutes. Was very very very good. I know I said a lot of times, but it was. Great flavours, great textures well done. I will be back as it may have actually been worth the weight.
