London's best halal fried chicken

Korean-style, Nashville-hot, buttermilk and bucket — the halal fried chicken worth the trip, all checked and dated

Fried chicken is the food London's halal scene rallies around. It's cheap enough for a Tuesday, good enough for a weekend queue, and — because chicken is the one protein most kitchens will actually certify — it's often the safest halal order in the building. That doesn't make every fried chicken spot halal, but it does mean the good ones tend to be loud and proud about it.

We still check. A "halal" claim on chicken can rest on a certified supplier, an in-house certificate, or the owner's word — and those aren't the same level of assurance. Every venue below sits on the Halal Joints ladder with its status sourced and dated: certified where there's a live certificate, confirmed where the kitchen has vouched for it, ask-before where the evidence is thinner. You'll see which is which on each venue's page.

Here's the halal fried chicken we're tracking across London, newest checks first:

Worth knowing: Korean-style double-fried chicken and Nashville-hot spots have exploded across the city, and most of the dedicated ones run halal chicken as standard — but the sauces and sides are where alcohol and cross-contamination sometimes sneak in, so it's worth a quick word with the counter if that matters to you. As always, glance at the date on our check before you commit; a fryer that was halal last year might have changed hands, and the timestamp is how you tell.
